Since 1995, the Hong Kong Film Archive has been actively involved in the preservation of Hong Kong cinema, which includes acquiring films that have scattered all over the world, in addition to conducting research and organising historical documents. In 20 years, conservation projects of over 50 titles were done. "Saving Film: Road to Film Conservation" invites the public to take a closer look at the Hong Kong Film Archive's work in the past 20 years from various aspects, including film acquisition, basic conservation, technology development, film research, advancement of digital technology and film programming. By exploring the scene of contemporary film conservation, this exhibition opens a window on the changes and development of related technology, while comparing the principles adopted by film archives and film companies on the issue of conservation. We hope to increase the public's understanding of the subject and illustrate the importance of film preservation and restoration in protecting our cultural heritage.
