Saving Film: Road to Film Conservation" Exhibition - Seminars

The 3-month exhibition "Saving Film: Road to Film Conservation" aims to lead the audience into the realm of film conservation, preservation and restoration. Through display of text panels, conservation equipment, video interviews of film restorers, researchers and programmers, we hope to enhance the public's understanding of the subject. Two seminars will be organized in September and October respectively. We have invited several professional film conservators and technicians to share with our audience their knowledge and experiences on various film restoration projects. Don't miss the chance!

Seminar 1 <Film Conservation 101: Inspecting the Film Stock>

Film inspection is the very first step, preceding all other conservation procedures. Through basic checking, restorers can find out any physical damages on the film stock, such as cracking, twisting, or defacement of the perforations; tearing and scratching of the film base and emulsion, as well as contamination by mould, staining and dust. All these adversely affect the film's image quality. With a fully equipped station set up at the exhibition, our film technician will go through with the audience each step of film inspection, allowing a close look at this important procedure.
