Beauty in Geometry

In the 1950s, in the increasingly prosperous Hong Kong, simplified, modern qipaos with linear lines and geometric elements were developed, telling the rhythm and vitality of our compact city.

When traditional fabric frog closures diminished in popularity, they were replaced by hidden snaps or colourful Western buttons. Traditional silks and satins were also replaced gradually by seasonal and varied imported fabrics.

Fabrics of cotton, linen, silks and wool, and those with woven or printed patterns, provided new inspirations for qipaos, and at the same time put the master tailors through their paces.
