As Hong Kong economy took off in the 1970s, making money was all that matters. In Hong Kong 73, Elliot Yueh Hua, Ivan Ho and their families live at No. 73, Hong Kong Street where occupants all dream of getting rich. Among them are two brothers who fall out over the stock market crash, a couple who resort to swindling as the wait for subsidised housing proves too long, a child and his grandfather who can't afford medical care and die a miserable death… Not until a landslide renders their home a dangerous structure do residents finally realise that helping each other is the best way out. Adapted from a top-rated TVB situational drama, this star-studded Shaw Brothers satire directed by Chor Yuen portrays a broad cross section of society, shedding light on the city's old Lion Rock spirit which still resonates to this day.
