Villains are necessary to underscore the heroic virtues of Wong Fei-hung, and martial arts master Sek Kin is the perfect foil for Kwan Tak-hing in numerous Wong Fei-hung films. In this film, Wong Fei-hung and Yeung Fei-fu are both seriously wounded after a face-off, and Wong is determined to train hard for a new winning move in order to claim victory. This is one of the rare early Wong Fei-hung films that depicted how Wong honed his martial arts skills. In their first climactic fight scene, Kwan's Tiger-Crane moves and Sek's Praying Mantis moves complemented each other with flying colours.
