During California Gold Rush in the 19th century, many Chinese laborers migrated to this faraway land to build railroads. Locke, a small town located near Sacramento, was known for its all-Chinese population. In 1969, with the assistance of James Wong Howe, then-college student Peter Yung shot his first documentary in Locke, chronicling the everyday life of the townsfolk. The essence of this early China town was delicately captured under the poetic lens of Yung.
