Ticketing Information

Introduction

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Chinese cinema classic Farewell to My Concubine (1993), the film's presenter Tomson (Hong Kong) Films Co., Limited commissioned and financed a 4K digital restoration of the renowned title, and authorised the Hong Kong Film Archive to present the Hong Kong premiere at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Farewell to My Concubine, adapted from a novel by Lillian Lee, directed by Chen Kaige and starring Leslie Cheung, Zhang Fengyi, Gong Li and Ge You, has earned more than a dozen international awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It is the only Chinese language film that has garnered a Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival, and is named one of the 'All-Time 100 Movies' by Time magazine.

Hsu Feng, producer of the film, was greatly devoted to the 4K digital restoration project. She worked closely with the restoration company with the goal of restoring the film according to the director's original creative ideas, returning the film as close as possible to the visual and audio glory of its initial release three decades ago.

With the trusted support of Tomson (Hong Kong), the Archive will present the 4K digitally restored version of Farewell to My Concubine at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, sharing this gem in Chinese cinema with the audience on the big screen again.

In addition to the screening, Tomson (Hong Kong) is also presenting a selection of overseas posters of Farewell to My Concubine for an exhibition at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Archive, extending the appeal of this classic title beyond the silver screen. On the day of the Hong Kong premiere (30 September), they will be displayed in the 2/F Foyer of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (near the entrance to the Grand Theatre); admission is free for ticket holders. From 4 October to 30 December, the exhibition will be presented at the 1/F Foyer of the Hong Kong Film Archive, also with free admission.
