Among the many narrative artforms – novels, radio plays, graphic novels, cinema, comics, etc – the resemblance between movies and comics do not go unnoticed. One may compare comic panels to freeze frames in movies. Thus, it's only natural for filmmakers to draw inspiration from comic books.

In Hong Kong, comics and films encountered with each other since the 1930s. When our city evolved into an international cultural hub, filmmakers were bent on absorbing new ideas, so were comic artists. The comic community reinvented itself brilliantly, and in turn served as a source of intellectual nourishment during the golden age of Hong Kong cinema.

Docent services of Hong Kong Film Archive has resumed. Public guided tours at 2pm and 4:30pm are available every Sunday since 5 March during the exhibition period. Details for Free Group Docent Service, please click here.
