People Below the Lion Rock

Introduction

After the baby boom, those who emigrated to Hong Kong from Mainland China settled into normal lives. While many characterized that period in the 1970s as one of great economic development and rapid expansion, making a living remained a daily challenge for grassroots citizens. RTHK's Below the Lion Rock drama series captures this important era of Hong Kong history, showing us the joys and struggles of everyday Hong Kongers. This programme showcases the first phase of the series, produced between 1973 and 1979. It features episodes produced and directed by Wong Wah-kay, Law Hung-chung, Cheung Man-yee, Allen Fong, Wong Chi and David Lam Tak-luk. We thank joint presenter RTHK's Television Section for their assistance and support in making this retrospective possible.
