After making her feature film directorial debut with The Secret (1979) 20 years ago, Ann Hui returns to the thriller genre with this entertaining horror film. Though she collaborates with young screenwriter Abe Kwong and the popular young stars of the era, Hui also pays respect to her past films, using locations from those films and creating characters that jump out of her horror classics. She is at the top of the game, displaying masterful control over pacing, visuals and atmosphere, deftly maintaining a tricky balance between horror and comedy.

Tomy Wai made his first foray into the horror genre with Thou Shalt Not Swear (1993), in which he attempted to create a score that is spooky and atmospheric. The result made audiences uneasy and influenced the style of music in Hong Kong horror films. Later, Wai nearly became the 'Father of Horror Movie Scores', composing the scores for hit horror films such as Midnight Zone (1997), Demi- Haunted (2002), Home Sweet Home (2005) and of course, Visible Secret.
