A botched rescue operation created a rift between best friends and fellow firefighters Sam (Nicholas Tse) and Chiu (Shawn Yue). Ten years later, as a power plant fire on Christmas Eve paralyses the city, the two men reunite on the front line, where they must battle the ghostly smoke and confront their personal demons. Among the uniformly excellent cast, the young stars push their physical limits like real firefighters while veteran actors Simon Yam and Liu Kai-chi create dramatic fireworks that burn onscreen as brightly as the fire in the film.

Through his discussions with director Derek Kwok, Tomy Wai understood that Kwok wanted the score to feel like something out of a horror film rather than a disaster film. As a result, him and co-composer Teddy Robin deliberately added vocals or even choral sounds in scenes with smoke and fire, making them lurk the characters like monsters and creating a terrifying atmosphere rarely seen in disaster films. The duo's efforts were rewarded with a nomination for Best Original Film Score at the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards.
