Based on true stories, this film tells the tragic story of several musicians including Yip Man-chiu who were born blind, as well as the inspiring story of the glorious life they achieved thanks to their courage and resilience. After a dramatic first half that recounts Yip’s childhood years, the film shifts style into a musical with performances by real-life visually impaired musicians from the training school, which was a unique storytelling structure rarely seen even today.

This was a charity film meant to raise funds for Ebenezer School and promote the encouraging message of ‘disabled, but able’ for the visually impaired. Though this was Tao Yuen’s final film, it upheld the company’s commitment to making an entertaining and educational film that also happens to be a charitable enterprise.

The ’blind children’ in the film are played by an ensemble of child starsTsui Siu-ming is dashing; Chu Kea’s daughter Chu Tin-wai is courteous and witty; and Fung Bo-bo’s little brother Fung Kwok-on is adorable. Approaching her teenage years at the time, Fung Bo-bo carries the film in a highlight performance of her child star years. Splendidly bringing to life the physical characteristics of a visually impaired person, Fung shows how much her acting has matured here.
