Night and Every Night (1953)
Chen Chuan-chuan as Xiaocui

An innocent northern girl forced to sell her body. Her life is no different, after becoming the concubine of a traitor general.

Chen Chuan-chuan used to play girl-next-door roles. During her transition period from young girl to young woman roles, she was ready to try a complex character that goes from innocence to depravation.

Characteristics of the Qipao Costume

Embellishment with meandering braids and studs were fashionable in the 1950s. From film stills, we see that the qipao originally had sleeves; it was likely altered when used in a later film. On the whole, there are no style elements related to the wartime period, but the look suits the general public’s idea of the garish beauty of a fallen woman.
