Miss Fragrance (1958)
Qiu Ping as Mrs Zhu

The shrewish wife behind the philandering manager, who loves luxury.

This evening gown was originally made for Hsia Moon for her role in Sunrise (1956). Here worn by the more petite Qiu Ping, the hemline reaches the tops of her feet.

Characteristics of the Qipao Costume

This silver-white qipao is made in a fancy jacquard with fringes. The black velvet-like trim is a composite fabric made with the flocking technique. As this black material does not fray, it can be used just like paper, resulting in precise and crisp cutouts of the Ruyi (a traditional Chinese auspicious symbol in cloud shape) ornamental design.
