In the still of the night, a faint melody from the saxophone brings the audience back to a nightclub circa the 1960s. Past memories resurface for celebrated singer Butterfly Yiu (Alice Lau) when she returns from overseas to hold a concert at the Flower Palace Nightclub. Butterfly, Lulu (Lo Koon-lan), Nancy (Fung Wai-hang) and Fung-ping (Louisa So) used to be budding cabaret singers at the nightclub who become best friends despite their different personalities. Amid the turbulence in Hong Kong, the looming war in Southeast Asia and relationships, they each take on different journeys in life. Through life's trials and tribulations, their friendship remains strong even when lamentable regrets linger on as they age and the Flower Palace is about to be demolished. The film is helmed by Clifton Ko Chi-sum, the film's director as well as editor, and Raymond To, the playwright of the original stage play that the film is based on. Stage actors were recruited for the lead roles in this film which, along with its theme songs, became a big hit. The film won three awards including Best Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards.
