Hong Kong-born cartoonist Louie Yu Tin was best known for creating the fictional character Woo Lung Wong (Silly Wong) that first appeared in a newspaper in Guangzhou. The series was later published in a Hong Kong newspaper and was equally well received. The comics was first adapted onto the screen in 1949, with Wong played by Lau Kwai-hong. In 1960, filmmaker Chu Kea directed three films adapted from the Woo Lung Wong comics, including Much Ado About Nothing as the first title. Wong Lung Woo, nicknamed Woo Lung Wong, returns from overseas after making a fortune. His godson Tsim Tsui-mau (Tang Kei-chen) and godson's wife Ho Bit-siu (Tam Lan-hing) team up with their friend George Cheung (Cheng Kwan-min) to try ripping Wong off, and even enlist support from beautiful singer Lin Yung-so (Law Yim-hing) to plot against him. But the remittance of Wong's ten million dollars has been much delayed, and the money-grubbers immediately leave the penniless Wong behind. Only Lin takes pity on him and offers him shelter, and the two soon fall in love… The film adaptation concerns less about social issues but focuses more on narrative and characterisation. The snobbish side characters look extremely dramatic, as much as any comic role. Leung Sing-por has never failed his audience with his signature playfulness, and playing Woo Lung Wong in the many comical scenes promises his audience to burst into laughter.
