Policeman Don (Nick Cheung) often works with informants but numerous too-close calls and failed missions cause him to see the world as one betrayal after another. Despite not having the word 'beast' in its title like his previous film, The Stool Pigeon is a solid Hong Kong film by Dante Lam that expresses and explores the themes of redemption and grief beneath the surface of a dog-eat-dog world. With its striking imagery and camera designs, The Stool Pigeon unfailingly pours in blood and tears to portray the informant as a sentimental yet tragic hero. Nicholas Tse has won The Best Actor in the 30th Hong Kong Film Awards.
