With imagination and determination, everything can become a weapon. This is precisely one of the characteristics of Hong Kong kungfu films, and The Young Master is one of the perfect examples. Jackie Chan plays an apprentice whose master orders him to bring back his law-breaking and runaway senior fellow apprentice. The film brilliantly shows how a true martial arts master can turn ordinary objects of everyday life into a unique weapon. A paper fan becomes a short club when folded; it can also block the opponent's view when opened or even be thrown like a boomerang. A bench is just like a shield with four added legs; it blocks, attacks and disables the enemy's weapons. Every move is testament to the meticulous arrangement and clever design of the martial arts choreographer.
