Sun Ma Si-tsang regarded Lust Is the Worst Vice as the magnum opus of his career, he refused to sell its film-making-rights to any film company. Instead, he founded his own company and produced, wrote, directed and starred in this film adaptation. Sun Ma plays a young man who was made blind after discovering his step-mother's affair, but then experiences the redemptive power of love through his fiancée. The most compelling aspect of the film is Sun-Ma's singing, where his stunning vocal range, and the proficient ease with which he transitions between his normal singing voice and falsetto, demarcate his unique signature style. Having studied the ‘Ma vocal style' in his youth, Sun Ma's singing contains traces of Ma's influence, which are apparent in his performance as a beggar and in his interpretation of the song ‘Begging for food'.
