The film is made up of four well-known Cantonese opera excerpts that exemplify the art of Cantonese opera. Feng Yi Pavilion features rare footage of Lo Ban-chiu's performance as the heroic yet gentle Lui Bo. Hung Sin Nui, in one of her most celebrated roles, runs the gamut of indignation and grief as Kwai-ying who is abandoned by her lover in Beating the Gods. Flour Vat is a celebrated work by the trio of comic actors Luk Won-fee, Man Kok-fei and Wong Chung-wong. The finale is Picking Up the Jade Bracelet with Ma Si-tsang playing matchmaker Mrs Lau in a female role and Hung Sin Nui as Suen Yuk-kau. They make their characters come alive through refined eye movements, footwork and hand gestures while delivering the lines with wit and spirit.
