Prince of Thieves was the first repertoire presented by the Tai Law Tin Opera Troupe, with originating roles by Ma Si-tsang and Chan Fei-nung. The plot, character, and stage design were entirely novel to audiences then and caused a huge sensation with the public. There was a 1939 film version with the same name, starring Ma Si-tsang and Nancy Chan, that is lost while this featured version stars Ho Fei-fan and Mui Yee. When Princess Coral (Mui Yee) seeks suitors, a nefarious prince (Lam Kau) assassinates the strongest contender who was subsequently impersonated by a heroic outlaw (Ho Fei-fan) to compete for the princess's heart in this rare swashbuckler of an adventure packed with action, special effects, and comedy.
