Yeung Kung-leong is one of Hong Kong cinema's buried treasures. While many of his films are readily available, the director considered a crazed genius by his contemporary peers remains largely unknown today. This is the third Song of Midnight-inspired film Yeung had made, and the director makes it in style. The story of a theatre troupe forced to stage a show at a haunted theatre is told in stylised mise-en-scène, with chiaroscuro photography, expressionistic compositions and atmospheric staging. Yeung also acts, playing the phantom character in a larger-than-life portrayal.

The image and sound quality of the original 16mm sole print is short of ideal, we appreciate your understanding.
