The rapport between martial arts and regional opera is vividly animated in this film. Kwan Tak-hing, the actor who personifies the legendary Wong Fei-hung in dozens of movies, was an opera star before he became an even bigger star on screen, and one of his famous stage roles was the tiger-taming hero Wu Song. The ‘Tiger' in the film's title can be the beast in the legendary tale or the film's villain, a town bully named Flying Tiger, as always played by the wonderful and always villain-ready Sek Kin. Having Wong defeat it/him on stage is therefore a multi-dimensional self-reflexive wink at the audience. The film also features an amusing double-take of the lion's dance, first performed as horseplay, then in the most serious and demanding fashion.

This version of the film was copied from an incomplete 35mm print. To present the film as complete as we could, scenes from a 16mm print were added, resulting in differences in image quality.
