Adapted from Yam Kim-fai's iconic repertoire of the same name, the film tells the story of Emperor Ming of Tang (Yam Kim-fai), who is so obsessed with the beauty in the painting for that he falls into a reverie in the Moon Palace, where he meets Chang'e (Law), the goddess of the Moon, and fixated on marrying her. After waking up from his dream, The Emperor meets and falls for Yeung Yuk-wan (also played by Law), who looks as divine as Chang'e. This is the earliest available costume musical starring Yam and Law in the lead roles. The pair has since collaborated in over 60 films, making Law the second frequent co-star of Yam after Pak Suet-sin.
