Introduction

Every September, to commemorate the victory of resistance against Japanese, the Archive organises free screenings of films themed on the war; it is hoped that the young audience would get to know this part of history that carries such a deep meaning to us. This year we have selected Love in a Fallen City (1984), adapted from an Eileen Chang novel of the same name and directed by Ann Hui, about the love story between Bai and Fan that is as tumultuous as the war itself. It is a brilliant reflection of the Hong Kong society during that era.
