Adapted from a folktale, The Goddess Helps the Bridge Builder chronicles the construction of a bridge across the Luoyang River where murderous wraiths rule. The wraiths make every boat crossing the river sink and drown the passengers. A selfless official Choi (Wong Ha-fei) -- who is the incarnate of Wenquxing, the Chinese deity of scholarship -- undertakes the exceptional endeavour of building the bridge to put an end to the wraiths' devious act with the help of Guanyin the Goddess (Leung Suet-fei). The process of constructing the bridge is illustrated by hand-drawn animation, a rare testament to the director's unique creative vision.
