There are many ways to put one's husband on a leash. A meek, indecisive man (Cheung Ying) finds himself the object of desire of both a rich lady (Pak Yin) and a poor singer (Siu Yin Fei). The lady is wild and competitive; the singer is adorable and loving. Polygamy is not an option for an indecisive man. Will the love triangle be dominated by the rich lady? In his previous film The Inscrutable Heart of Women (1947), director But Fu resolves a similar love triangle with a mènage-a-trois, to tragic, untoward results. Exploring an alternative solution, Long Live the Wife treats the predicament comically but also with decorum, posing an acute challenge to male-centred social values and orthodox masculinity.
