Adapted from acclaimed eponymous Cantonese Opera by its original creator Lee Siu-wan, this production with its stellar ensemble was more entertaining and appealing film compared with its twin, The Story of Emperor Guangxu (1952), a film depicts the same Emperor and that premiered on the same day. Leung Mo-sheung as the Emperor Guangxu sings the theme song in the film, elevating the whole drama to its emotional crescendo, popular comedian Leung Sing-por also performed a humorous rendition of ‘A Bachelor's Love Affair', and the singing scenes of eminent "Mui style" songstress Yu Lai-zhen, all of which made for unforgettable viewing. Invaluable clips are preserved in the pre-roll, where renowned musician Wan Chi-chung partnered with Lee for a surprising singing performance, as well as a piece of vocal performances by Yam Kim-fai from the film A King Speaks His Heart in the Cuckoo's Song (1951).
