True to his promotional savvy, Chan Cheuk-sang came up with another star vehicle to commemorate the Third Anniversary of The United.  Ms Chan's Boat Chase, billed as an ‘All-Singing Story of the People', features the cherished Yam-Pak-Por pact, with Cantonese opera superstars Yam Kim-fai and Pak Suet-sin playing the romantic leads, side-kicked by the versatile character actor Leung Sing-por, who can always be counted on for comic relief and dramatic brilliance. The film is also rooted in literature and traditional Chinese culture, its story adapted with timely opportunism from popular writer Zhang Henshui's mid-1950s novel Autumn River, which was in turn based on the opera favourite The Jade Hairpin.
