In 1956, Songs of the Peach Blossom River turned Chung Ching (also affectionately called ‘the little wild cat' at the time) into a bona fide movie star. Her musicals—featuring Yao Li as playback singer—were huge box office hits in the latter half of the decade, and her most frequent screen partner was Chin Feng. In a versatile performance, Chung plays both a flower shop girl who harbours a crush on her neighbour Huanwen (Chin) and a singer that he falls head over heels for.
