As the director of the Cantonese opera troupe founded by Yam Kim-fai and Pak Suet-sin, Tong Tik-sang wrote many scripts for the famous stage partners, including the original production that this film is based on. Based on a folktale, Pak plays a spoilt princess who demands to marry Siu Shi (Yam Kim-fai) for his musical skills, not knowing that he's actually a prince in distress. Happy Wedding may not be considered to be among Yam and Pak's most iconic works, but it's a return to the trio's well-established style.
