In the 1970s, Hong Kong's television stations engaged in a cut-throat ratings battle. The intense competition inspired Michael Hui to make this uproarious chase comedy. Michael stars as a television talent who is trapped in an eight-year contract that he can't get out of. When he takes on a temporary hosting job for another station, he suddenly becomes an overnight success. Desperate to join the other station, he schemes with his inventive oddball younger brother (Ricky Hui) to steal his contract from his boss' office. Like other Hui brothers films at the time, The Contract was once again the highest-grossing film that year.
