Hong Kong actress Nancy Chan stars in this period drama as Fei Zhen'e, daughter of a warrior loyal to the Ming dynasty who bravely assassinates a traitor when the dynasty falls. Period films at the time were often allegories to the present time, calling for people to resist foreign aggression. Through chronicling Fei's adventure to the forbidden palace, the absurdity of war was fully manifested when Fei's father bravely guarded the city but was killed by hungry mobs, and when Emperor Chongzhen fled the palace but was turned away by his feasting royal relatives.
