Magic is in the air when the cop meets the comedian! Mr Boo VIII Chocolate Inspector, a police comedy, is a special confluence of divergent talents, where Michael Hui's little-man shtick is informed by Philip Chan's tough-guy disposition. The comic master Hui plays the title character, a bumbling inspector who pops chocolates for inspiration. When he's assigned to shepherd a rookie (the eternal songstress Anita Mui in one of her earlier starring roles) who happens to be not only a beauty contestant but also his boss's daughter, hilarious adventures inevitably ensue. Chan, by 1986 a seasoned filmmaker, captures Hui's iconic wit with precise timing and assured mise-en-scène.
