Jimmy Lin, who's part Japanese, got his showbiz break in Japan, becoming a star after being cast in a stage musical, for which he initially served only as an interpreter. When Star of Hong Kong, the second part of MP & GI's Toho Trilogy (or, from another perspective, Toho's Hong Kong Trilogy) went into production, Lin was cast in a key role. In this cosmopolitan and free-spirited story about interracial romance, Lin played against major stars Lucilla You Min and Takarada Akira and rose to the occasion, turning in a restrained but effective performance.
