The top grosser for 1976, The Private Eyes created a boom in Japan in the name of Mr. Boo!. Streetwise private eye Lee Kwok-kit (Sam Hui) has a stingy and mean boss Wong Yeuk-sze (Michael Hui), who messes up every case he is working on. As luck would have it, Lee saves a theatre crowd from a heist and brings all culprits to justice, after which the mercenary boss repents and starts treating his employees kindly. Audiences now and then would easily associate themselves with this timeless social comedy, which stays close to the pulse of the masses.
