July Rhapsody

Secondary school teacher Lam Yiu-kwok (Jacky Cheung) is suffering from a mid-life crisis—his peers have all become more successful than him; his relationship with his wife, Chan Man-ching (Anita Mui), is in trouble when her old flame returns, and he finds himself tempted by a 17-year-old student (Karena Lam) who has a crush on him. Ivy Ho's script takes an eloquent, sensitive approach to a taboo topic, while Ann Hui's observant style quietly but effectively draws audiences into a story at once provocative and relatable. In her final film appearance, Mui gives a heartrendingly understated performance that once again earned her nominations at film awards across the region.
