The MTR changed Hong Kong's transportation industry for good and fantasies of romantic train encounters ran amok in popular culture. Who wouldn't want to step into the shoes of Paul (Leslie Cheung) who falls for Monica (Maggie Cheung) after a fateful MTR encounter? Coincidentally, this romance about fate also brought together Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung, who not only shared the screen for the first time but also shared a duet with a ballad theme song that remains a fan favourite today. This bourgeois romance also earned Mui her first best supporting actress prize at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Also screening: From Ashes to Ashes (2000, 38min), directed by Leslie Cheung and co-produced by RTHK Radio 2 and Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health, marking the last collaboration between Cheung and Mui on the silver screen.
