By the end of the 1980s, Leslie Cheung retired from the music world and transitioned into full-time acting. Little did he know that a young upstart named Wong Kar-wai would have the perfect film. In a role that's practically tailor made for him, Cheung plays a brash, charismatic playboy with a poignant narcissism that attracts women like moths to the flame. The critically acclaimed drama failed commercially despite an all-star cast, but it began a fruitful partnership between Cheung and Wong, and won Cheung the Best Actor accolade at the Hong Kong Film Awards. Recalling the dashing rebel persona of his idol days, Cheung breathed life into possibly the most remembered bad boy in the history of Hong Kong cinema.
