After two big-budget period epics in 1948, Yung Hwa took their first stab at a contemporary film with this melodrama. Li Lihua starred as Li Hanfen, the wife of banker Pan Shuming (Yan Hua). Not long after their wedding, Ming disappears in a boating accident and courtesan Shen Manli (Sun Jinglu) suddenly appears on Hanfen's doorstep claiming that the baby she's carrying belongs to Shuming. Intent on continuing her husband's bloodline, Hanfen asks Manli to let her raise the baby. Not only is the film an acting showcase for both Li and Sun, Yung Hwa sold the film as the chic fashion showcase of the year, dressing the actresses in the most gorgeous outfits of the era.
