Yam Kim-fei may be renowned for playing the scholar in her best-known films, but she was actually trained as a martial artist even though she rarely displays those skills on stage or on screen. Her close friendship with Lux Film Company's head Lee Siu-wan (also the writer of this film) made her stretch her muscles for this period epic based on a famous Peking opera. Inspired by the folk legends of Sui-Tang era warrior Law Shing, the film begins with his battle against traitor Dau Kin-dak. However, Shing returns home only to find that he has been banished from his country – the work of villainous scheming officials. Donning the heavy warriors' outfit, Yam performs every traditional opera martial arts trick in the book for a truly memorable showcase of her remarkable talents.
