After its success on the radio, the original cast joined forces to co-finance and co-star in its film adaptation. Stephen Chan Chu-kwong stars as rickshaw driver Keung. One day, he encounters an orphaned girl named Fong (Wan Fong-ling) and decides to help her escape her terrifying stepfather by paying him $1,000 a month. However, Keung is forced to turn to crime when he falls behind on payments and eventually gets caught. Refusing to be his burden, Fong leaves Keung and finds her own work as a night club waitress, setting off a series of misunderstandings. Despite being his first film role, Chan proves himself to be a natural-born actor with a star-making performance. However, it's veteran actors Lok Kung and Lee Sau-kei who steal the spotlight in a tense dramatic negotiation scene between two triad figures. Also, don't miss a rare glimpse of 1960s Hong Kong through the perspective of Keung's rickshaw as it travels through the city streets.
