In a film that bears the same title as but no relation in content to his first opera, Sit Kok-sin played Chan Chi-chiu, the boss of a trading company who combines wealth and business acumen with operatic and singing prowess but finds himself entangled in a love triangle involving two sisters, Fun (Siu Yin Fei) and Ming (Tsi Lo Lin). Ever a cautious man, Chan decides to put the women through the gold-digger test by posing as the broke teacher, Bill Chan. No sooner has Fun solved the dilemma by graciously accepting the nuptials to the fake boss arranged by her parents than the two men are exposed as a hoax on the wedding night. Ming exposes Chan while Fun flees the nuptial chamber and returns to her true love, Bill. A fantastic array of supporting actors – the big chauffeur Tak and Lan; the boss impersonator and the desperate social-climbing parents – was brought in as a comic foil to flesh out and give context to the portrait of hardship and woe of survival in the post-war years.
