The betrothal of Yim-cheung (Yam Kim-fai) and Chiu-wah (Pak Suet-sin), the daughter of Minister Kong, is blessed by the emperor with a gold-braided fan. But Kong annuls the matrimony upon discovering that Yim-cheung's family has lost its fortunes. Chiu-wah chases after her fiancé when he is kicked out of her father's house, but she ends up stumbling upon the scene of a felony. Chiu-wah is convicted of murder and sentenced to exile while Yim-cheung becomes a diplomat after excelling in the imperial examination. They meet again by chance, and Yim-cheung eventually finds out what has really happened. Kong manages to locate the culprits and vindicates his own daughter. The scenes in which Yam and Pak fall for and confront each other are incredibly remarkable.
