Inspired by a visit to the cemetery by Raymond Wong, this inventive genre mishmash introduces the idea that spirits exist in this world not to haunt us, but to ask for our help in their unfinished businesses. After a game of Spirit Board, insurance agent Ming (Alan Tam) begins encountering spooky incidents involving a female ghost Siu-yu (Ni Shu-chun), whose death is being investigated by Ming. After learning Siu-yu's true intention, Ming begins to fall for his otherworldly friend, stirring the jealousy of his fiancé (Cecilia Yip). A surprise box office hit, Esprit D'amour and its alluring theme song pushed star Alan Tam's career in both film and music to new heights. Making her film debut at just 16 years old, Ni is simply bewitching as the sweet, ghostly heroine who captures Ming's heart.
