Joe Ma was still a secondary school student when he wrote the award-winning stage play that was adapted into this supernatural teen comedy, the first of a successful franchise. During a camping trip, three secondary school girls (Bonnie Law Ming-chu, Loletta Lee, Sandy Lamb) find shelter in an abandoned temple and accidentally unleash the spirit of a Qing Dynasty scholar (Raymond Wong). Fortunately, their new supernatural pal is a friendly ghost who may not have the power to solve every problem for the girls, but is there through thick and thin as they face troubles with school, love and other growing pains. As a low-budget, high return production, The Happy Ghost not only brought three teenage ladies to stardom, but also opens up new possibilities in comedic genres.
