Long before he scared Hollywood with The Bride of Chucky (1998) and Freddy vs. Jason (2003), director Ronny Yu made this spooky horror hit for Cinema City, a suspenseful mystery that's high on atmosphere and style. Angie (Sally Yeh) is a Canadian student who comes to Hong Kong to study Chinese superstitions. Her research leads her to home haunted by the spirit of a singer who has plenty to be vengeful about after her supposed suicide. With the help of a car salesman (Raymond Wong) and a cop (Chow Yun-fat), Angie tries to get to the bottom of the singer's death before her ghost kills them. According to urban legends, the film's theme song (performed by Mak Kit-man, who plays the ghost) has led to several spooky incidents at local radio stations, leading to an unofficial ban that still stands to this day.
