1980 / Colour / DCP / Cantonese / Chi & Eng Subtitles / 97min

For Cinema City's inaugural film, director John Woo pays tribute to the works of Charlie Chaplin with this heartwarming and farcical comedy about everyday people in the big city. Dressed in a tuxedo, a top hat and a cane, a charming homeless man (Dean Shek) teams up with a songstress (Wong Sau-man), an orphan (Wong Wai) and the neighbourhood drunk (Wu Ma) to take on a mean tyrant (Karl Maka). Though a comedy at heart, Laughing Time shines a spotlight on the forgotten outcasts of society, people who are simply trying to live every day with their heads held high. It's about finding hope in hardship and living a fulfilling life full of joys and sadness.
