The comedy of Mok Hong-si is often built on the confusions caused by mismatched identities of its characters. Best Fortune would serve as a good example. The story concerns with the young and beautiful To (Fong Yim-fun) who meets Kam (Yam Kim-fai), a rich young man disguised as a broke fellow, and Wong (Leung Sing-po), a poor man pretending to be a millionaire at a high society party. In order to save the crumbling family business, To's parents want her to go out with Wong and keep a distance from Kam. Although in love with the latter, To settle for a marriage to Wong as a result of a series of misunderstandings. The best fortune is that on the wedding day, Wong's disguise is exposed. Although the plot of the film is nothing short of contrivances, Mok Hong-si is able to make things proceed at an easy pace, and keep it amusing all along. Thanks must also be given to the precise timing and hilarious performance of Leung Sing-po, who lends such sophistication to the character as to make audience feel the pathos in the masquerade of his poverty. Mok also makes good use of the element of suspense in keeping the audience anxious at the final choice of To.
