Following his father's order, Tang Wan-tung (Alan Tang) conceals his identity as the son of a Southeast Asian Sultan and comes to Hong Kong to study at Pui Shi Secondary School. He admires the singing talent of Lai Tsi-king (Ting Ying), the most beautiful girl in the neighboring school, and recommends her to perform in the embassy. However, Principal Lui (Leung So-kam) interferes and Tsi-king's snobbish parents force her to date the wealthy Tung Fook-si (Mak Kay). When Wan-tung helps fund Tsi-king's study abroad, he is involved in a case of stolen diamond ring…When Mok Hong-si directed The Student Prince, he was almost 58 years old but the film feels young and fresh, pioneering the youth films in the 1960s. Lan Kwong Film Company held an open audition for the male lead. The 17- year-old Alan Tang, a Tony Curtis lookalike, beat hundreds of students to win the role and became a youth idol. Since then, he was fondly remembered as "The Student Prince" for the rest of his career as an actor. Tang became a famous producer in the 1980s and produced Wong Kar-wai's As Tears Go By (1988) and Days of Being Wild (1990), among others.
